Hollywood Haunts: The Hollywood Sign
Peg Entwistle: The Hollywood sign on Mount Lee – the most famous landmark and meaningful symbol for many in Hollywood. Lillian Millicent “Peg” Entwistle came to Hollywood and dreamed of a great career as a movie actress. On the evening of September 18, 1932 Peg walked up the Beachwood Drive and climbed up to the sign. She climbed up the ladder to the top of the 50-foor letter H and jumped to death. She was only 24 years old. Sadly Entwistle never reached fame for beeing a successful actress but for beeing the only known person to commit suicide by jumping off the sign. And rumor has it that she still haunts the place – people believe to have seen her ghost jumping off the H sometimes.

John The Star Cleaner
John Peterson – also known as John, the one legged Star cleaner – is in charge of keeping the precious Stars on the Walk of Fame clean. He started cleaning the stars in 1999 for tips after he lost his job at a television repair shop when digital devices run over the market and he became homeless. The director of the Hollywood Entertainment District saw him one morning and invited him to work for the organization  on a salary. John, who has been disabled since he was a child, polishes an average of 80 to 90 stars each day, starting at 9am, and frequently chats with tourists and locals.

Where the Stars lived: Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992)
822 North Roxbury Drive, Beverly Hills
The German born actress rented this Beverly Hills mansion in the early 1930s. In 1920s Berlin, Dietrich acted on the theater stage and in silent films. Her performance as Lola-Lola in “The Blue Angel”, which was directed by Josef von Sternberg, brought her international fame and a contract with Paramount Pictures in the US. Hollywood blockbusters such as “Shanghai Express” and “Desire” capitalized on her glamor and exotic looks and she eventually became one of the highest paid actresses of her era. Dietrich spent most of the 1950s to the 1970s touring the world as a successful show performer and in 1999 the American Film Institute named Dietrich the ninth greatest female star of all time. After breaking her leg in one performance, she never made it in show business again. She spent the last 12 years of her life bed-ridden and died on May 6, 1992 in Paris, France at the age of 90.
